Since there are winter holidays for two weeks
in Poland in January - it also means that some children might spend more time
in day care centers. They come earlier – to be there for the time they would
otherwise be in schools. That’s why volunteers from SPW decided to go and spend
some time in Pułtusk to help our friends – volunteers from FYIE with their
activities in day care center Świetlica.
Last week on Tuesday Dominik, EVS volunteer
from Czech Republic, made presentation about his country. I was not there so
cannot write in details.. :)
On Thursday I made short presentation
about Slovakia. I showed to children some pictures of interesting places from
my country - for instance some symbols of our Capital Bratislava, pictures of
Tatras, caves, castles, Janosik and also our Slovak fairy tale characters: Matko a Kubko – which they understood as Slovak version
of Lolek i Bolek :) There were also some pictures of Slovakian
traditional food. Unfortunately it was not possible to have the real food. No time
to cook :)

Then we watched and listened to song from Macko Uško /Miś
Uszatek in both languages – Slovak and Polish, so children could have heard
the difference and compare it. (In Slovakia this fairy tale is very popular, I believe every kid
knows it – and actually, when I was a child I thought it was Slovak fairy tale :) )

I hope we all learnt something – children
(and also teachers in the center) something new about Slovakia; and me – how to deal with children and how to speak and understand Polish if I "have to". :) (Children were asking me someting when Veronika - who helped with translating - was not around.) So this was my first day in the center.
In the evening we played few funny board games - there was opportunity for young people from Pułtusk to join us and play along.
The best moments happened while playing Dobble –
the game where you have to name the same objects at different cards – everyone
was telling names of the objects in her/his own language. So we learnt how to say
some words in Polish, English, Slovak, Czech and Russian. It was good and funny
way how to learn languages a bit – and also how to spend nice time together.

Hard times - everyone wants to be a winner! |
On Friday we went to the day care center
as well - to play a bit with the children again, to teach those who were interested
a bit of Slovak and Russian language and draw a bit with them.
This week there are other SPW volunteers in
day care center Świetlica in Pułtusk – Fatima from Portugal and Alisa from
Germany. They both will introduce something from their countires so children now have really intercultural and international experience - we hope they are enjoying it. :)
